Lisa Marcos, Reflection on Presentations, SPC 2608

In our SPC 2608, we presented chapters 1-10 of the iSpeak book. In these chapters, we gained knowledge about how to present, what to do and what not to do in your speech, research and more. These presentations really shed light on many resources and information on what a good presentation should look like. Going off to group 1, they displayed a wonderful looking presentation with vibrant colors and lots of information. With the vibrant colors, it made me keep focus on the slides more, since these colors are appealing to me, the more I was engaged in their presentation. In group 1, they discussed the intricacies of creating a presentation. Whether it's selecting a topic or understanding the audience better. Their presentations were filled with lots of information and the speakers spoke very coherently and appeared to have done their research and had the knowledge to talk about their subject. This presentation really helped us understand the basics of public speaking, how we should communicate and relay our research to the audience, and how to present ourselves when speaking. This helped me understand better and feel less judged whenever I get nervous when presenting because most people feel the same. The video source that group1 gave us really helped understand better on speech analysis. Visuals help me understand best. With all their information on the slides, I was able to take notes of their presentation so I can go back to them for future reference. They also talked about topics that are credible and interesting to the audience. It helps us to understand how the audience will feel during the speech, if they are interested in the topic or not. This group gave us lots of useful information about presenting, but also gave us info about being a better listener, and how public speaking isn't just about speaking, but listening to others. I appreciate how well this group presented, as they highlighted their key details of their presentation in the end. I really appreciated how well their presentation was and how well each person from their group gave out their portion of the speech.

Going off to group 2 presentation, which is the group i was in, we worked together as a group to decide who will do what, and to ask if they needed any help regarding their part of the speech, whether it was presenting a portion or if their part of the slide looks best. In our group, we presented the selecting and arranging of content, hot to find and gather information, organize and outline your presentation, as well as all the different resources you have available. As well as how to deliver speeches, your choice of words, visual resources and presentation technology. When  working on the presentation, I learn a lot simply on just my section, since I was doing research. Along the way however, I also learned a lot when my group started relaying their information into the presentation. Asking questions or needed clarification on a certain topic. Working together gave me insight on the information being presented. During our speech, we, as well as group 1, spoke coherently and although we did work together and gained knowledge on the topics, we also gained more information as we were presenting. Talking about the many resources speakers can acquire when making their speech, just by the internet, or going the old fashioned way and looking through magazines, newspapers, or articles. There are large amounts of information that we can gather and research if we truly tried and could really help our speeches go into the next level. Going on as well as organizing your speech, and the most effective way of delivering your speech, I really enjoyed how well the presentation and information was given to the audience. The speakers presenting these topics really studied their material well.

Going on to group 3 presentations, they focused on tips to present information, how to optimize audience understanding, better persuasion, speaker skills, how to present as a group, learning the different principles of learning, ethics and how to present for different kinds of occasions. Just like both groups, this group displayed a well organized presentation with well spoken speakers when talking about their subject. Their presentation was more ethical based, talking about the ethical part of persuasive speaking and making informative presentations. I do like how group 3 presented the definitions of certain words such as “audience analysis' ' and “occasion and context' ' as many of us won't know what is the true meaning behind the word, i appreciate the definition being displayed and given to us as we can learn what it is, and we can implement them into our future presentations. The videos that group 3 had really helped us understand the topic even more, it gives us how certain speakers implement the tips and tricks that are being mentioned in the presentation. I appreciate the videos, since I am more of a visual learner, these videos helped me understand the topic at hand. I enjoyed how this group went into detail on certain topics, such as “What Skills Do You Need for Effective Group Presentations?” They listed certain skills you need but also gave more insight on each skill, giving us the best possible way a certain skill should be performed. This group's presentation and the group who spoke understood their topic very well and produced a very good presentation.

Overall, all the presentations from group 1-3 were very well organized and decorated very well. There weren't any big mistakes or any changes I would like to see happen with certain groups, but I will say that maybe bring in more personal experience of the speaker as it will resonate with the audience more, if the personal experience deem fit for the topic at hand. The presentations are vibrant, full of useful information that we can use for our next speech we may give. This also gave us an opportunity to see what level we are at in terms of speaking, others might feel they need to work on their speaking skills while others may think they are doing well, but it has given us a perspective on what we think we should fix or not fix. These presentations were overall very well made, knowledgeable and informational, these presentations are a good source to keep in case you would like to go back and review a certain topic, these presentations are very useful to do so.
