AI Presentations Reflections - Lisa Marcos

        In our SPC 2608 class, we presented our research on the effects of Artificial Intelligence in our world and in certain areas such as mental health, economy, education, sports, social life, entertainment, and potential careers. As AI technology has become an important advancement in current day, it does affect the world. As group 1 presented AI in the education and sports area, we learned incredible information on how AI has made education more accessible for students and can help assist them if there need any help regarding a subject. Ai can also give them information that can help students learn wherever they are. There are some risk factors however, such as students may grow a dependency on the AI and could prevent the students from performance well. This section of group 1 presentation really helped me understand that AI in education can be a great factor that can help teachers and students thrive in their daily tasks during school hours. Group 1 presented their section of education well; they brought some major points that is a conversation starter and that everyone should be aware of. going off to the next section of Group1 presentation, which is about sports, we learned ways that sports teams include AI into their systems. Such as improving their performance in games, analyzing game film, and drafting. Most importantly, fan engagement and Player safety really helps us understand the true significance AI has on sports. This group really did an amazing job on presentation the facts and statistics on how Ai is implemented in sports teams. They spoke well and understood their topic very well as they had done research on it. The PowerPoint presentation also gave us useful information and their decoration of it really kept me engaged all the way through till the very end. 

        As my group is group 2, we presented on how AI has influenced the economy and mental health. The use of AI on economy is one of value. As AI has the capabilities to “double annual growth rates” (as depicted in our PowerPoint presentation) it gives an idea that AI really can affect our economic system in the country. Although, we must recognize that AI does have its flaws, meaning we must be cautious of its power. As half of my group did economy, they truly worked hard to research this topic and understand it fully before presenting, they did a great job with communicating with each other and helping one another to compete their part of the presentation. Combining their work together they were able to make a wonderful presentation of the workings of AI in economy, with informative examples and illustrations of how it affects our economy in this country. Going on the second topic, which I was involved in, was mental health. Mental health is something that is wildly affected everyone in a global sense. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals around the world were affected mentally. Being stuck at home, not being able to socialize and having the fear of getting sick really affected all of us. With the use of AI, anyone can be able to talk to someone in the palm of their hands by using AI chatbots. Again, we need to consider the risks AI can have with mental health, but it could be a great way for anyone to be able to express what they feel if they do not feel comfortable talking face to face with a therapist or psychologist. When researching about this topic, there were many things that could be presented, but with my side of the group we worked together to achieve all the research we could get, we were also able to get an interview with a professor at MDC who specializes her work in mental health. Her interview really helped our group understand that AI we could help mental health. Doing this presentation changed my view on AI. Having strong feelings against, I’ve learned that AI isn’t bad unless used not responsibly. Overall, this group went above and beyond to obtain all the information and present as well as they did. 

        Going to group 3 now, they presented the topics of social life, entertainment, and potential careers. Going to the topic of social life and entertainment, group 3 was able to present viable information on how people are using AI to make intricate and beautiful pieces of art. Going to film, using AI to use animations and make wonderful movies and TV shows, AI has helped make these animations come to real life. They also presented AI games that gives the entertainment of talking to a “person” when in reality it is an AI chatbot. Although these games can be a little dangerous as you may create a dependency on them, it has risen to fame as many others have enjoyed this game. Group 3 did really well present this information. giving us images that help us understand the concept better whilst they showed us these images. Going now to the other half of group 3 presentation, there topic was on potential careers. In this section of the presentation, I was shocked to hear that AI could potentially come into and began working as teachers. I do not believe that is Ai is capable of doing what a teacher does. Ai can teach a class full of students, but they cannot make the class fun or as engaging as a human teacher would be able to do. That piece of information intrigued me the best. Another piece of information given to us was how AI is used in the operations rooms and how surgeons use them to help them guide through their surgeries. I believe that technology is revolutionary and can help very long procedures we done quicker and less invasive. Overall, I enjoyed group 3 presentation as it did have vital information that is good to be able to have. Being knowledge in these types of topics really helps us become more open minded on the subject of Artificial Intelligence. AI has changed our world for the better, although, it does has its negative aspects to it. it has changed the way we think and learn and go about our daily lives. Without AI, we wouldn’t be able to learn as quick as we can, enjoy watching our favorite sports and films , help funding our economy and calculate numbers, be able to talk to an AI chatbot if we ever have a concern about our mental health and can’t reach a therapist in time, listen to our favorite music, and be able to produce our ideas and inventions. Without AI, we wouldn’t even be able to write this blog post and submit it. The use of AI has changed the world for the better and will continue to do so in the years to come.
