Feedback on AI presentations- Jimena Lopez

 

        As well all know AI has been advancing as the years go by either for the better or the bad, it all really depends as how it is used and for what it is used.  This group project had really great information on how AI has been advancing in different areas from Sports, Education, Mental Health, Economy, Social Life, and entertainment. AI has great advantages but also disadvantages. We all learned great information and received great predictions on how AI on the long run can either better or worse in these different areas that were discussed.

      Group 1 had a great presentation on how AI will or is affecting Education and Sports. Artificial Intelligence can be a great thing with education because in some way it can better the education and the understanding in students but at the same time if it is used way more than it should be used it can cause a problem to students. For example, we all know about ChatGPT, which is an example of AI, college students now are using this app to “help” them with final papers, essays or whatever it is being used for. For students this program can be an advantage because I mean, “easy” A. But also, from a professor’s point of view this isn’t so much an advantage but more of a disadvantage because students aren’t putting in the effort of writing the final paper themselves. They even included some benefits that AI imposes like improving efficiency learning and better access to education. Group 1 also explained how AI can pose as a problem if students and teachers rely and depend so much on AI for delivering education and the ability to solve critical thinking problems. Without this presentation I didn’t really put in mind that artificial intelligence would have an effect in sports, but group 1 explained otherwise. AI has been improving the safety of players and preventing injuries, such as using wearable technology that tracks the movement of players and analyzes the data.

      Group 2 on the other hand spoke about how AI is taking a role in the economy and mental health. In my opinion Artificial intelligence is taking a big role in these two areas. Artificial intelligence is being advanced day by day and obviously for the better. When it comes to technology AI is being used in certain job areas and are now affecting the jobs of certain employees. Instead of humans doing the job it’ll be technology doing it instead. Statistics have shown how AI will be able to take away 85 million jobs globally by 2025 which is insane and most likely if people want to keep their jobs, they will have to develop new skills. Moving forward to mental health, according to group 2 AI has been used to help psychologist diagnose different mental illnesses and help create a diagnosis and or treatment plan as well. AI in mental health can be advantage to people who suffer from mental health since some are afraid to speak to people but rather speak to a automated “robot” or website, for example like chatbots. They also explained how AI can be available to people for 24hrs, so it is reachable whenever you need it unlike being able to reach out to your psychologist who isn’t available 24hrs.

    Lastly group 3 spoke about how AI is making in impact in the social life, entertainment, and potential careers of people. They spoke about how AI is being used in the role of actors and how it is affecting them. There was a case where they were scanning their face and expressions but what is crazy is that actors who aren’t the main actors and are being scanned, they won’t get paid for it? So, this is automatically a disadvantage and unfair to these background actors. It’ll only be fair to pay these actors as well not just the main actors. This can also be seen how AI is taking over their jobs as well.AI is taking a toll on writers, animators, actors, and audiences. Group 3 informed how writers are protesting because it is said that AI is predicted to be writing the scripts of tv shows, movies, etc. They also showed how AI is being used to create animation but Chad Nelson himself even stated that it won’t be possible to create an animation created just by artificial intelligence he will need the voices of actual people. Artificial intelligence has been seen as an advantage in this case by the audience since the development of this technology will be able to improve the interactive experiences in art, like the game of thrones, provided by this presentation. Group 3 also gave a presentation on how AI is replacing human interaction. Apps are being created such as Xiaoices, Replika, and Character.AI. Instead of people having normal human interactions there are apps where people can go and download and have an interaction with robots.  Artificial intelligence in art is also being used for the good and the bad. Group 3 explained how people are using this just to have fun and create great ideas but there are artists that are overusing artificial intelligence which leads to the bad side. They explained how there are artists creating art and publishing them as if they are the ones that did it but they in fact did not. It is unfair to the actual real artists who are taking their time and effort creating this unique art and go into competition with someone who took advantage of this technology and won this competition like nothing. Overall artificial intelligence is being generated for either the good or the bad, as mentioned before, it all depends how you use it. In my opinion it is an advantage if it is used within limits and making sure not to overuse it. When it comes to education as a student I see it as an advantage since it can be used for more in depth learning.
